The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) regulates the construction, alteration, and demolition of buildings in the five boroughs by enforcing the New York City Construction Codes. These codes include the Building Code, Mechanical Code, Fuel Gas Code, Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, and Energy Code. DOB also enforces the New York City Zoning Resolution, which governs the use of zoning lots and the bulk of buildings; the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law; the New York City Housing Maintenance Code; the Rules of the City of New York; and several other laws and regulations.
Over the years, we have helped hundreds of property owners navigate DOB’s enforcement mechanisms by offering input on interpretations of these laws; preparing applications for DOB pre-consideration and pre-approval of interpretations of these codes; assisting with actions necessary to lift stop-work orders; helping bring DOB’s attention to dangerous or threatening conditions on neighboring construction sites; and bringing our clients together with experts throughout the industry.
